environmentally-friendly-baby-products

Keeping our babies safe and sound is one of the most important considerations every parent has to take into account. Whether it’s their education or physical well-being, there’s nothing that should be overlooked. Taking care of their skin can be crucial in their development since it’s skin is the biggest organ in our body.

Babies are extremely resilient, so any issues your baby might have with their skin can be cleared up in no time. As long as you’re willing to learn the basics of eco-friendly home remedies for baby skincare, your baby will be miles ahead. Unfortunately, it’s not so obvious how to go about taking proper care of a baby’s skin, which is exactly what I want to dive into here.

So, what are some eco-friendly home remedies for baby skincare?

1. Avoid bathing too often

Similar to the advice of not washing your hair every single day, the same goes for giving your baby a bath. Your baby has a lot of natural oils that are just starting to develop and excessive washing can hinder this development. By washing your baby every day, their skin could result in dryness and even chipping.

Washing your baby 3-4 times per week is likely the best solution for ensuring their skin is getting all the natural oils. This also is a sufficient amount of time to ensure your baby gets a proper cleaning. This is probably the easiest home remedy for baby skincare you can follow.

2. Don’t let diaper rash become a problem

It’s difficult to 100% avoid your baby getting some sort of rash on their skin and diaper rash is no different. By keeping their diaper on for too long, your baby’s skin can easily get irritated, especially if they have a skin allergy to the brand of diaper you’re using. The good thing is, there are plenty of high-quality, eco-friendly diaper brands out there.

When putting on your baby’s diaper, be sure that it’s not too tight so they can move around easily. Also, it’s a good idea to change their diaper right after they’ve made a mess. However, the best thing you can do is ensure the diapers you’re using on your baby don’t cause an allergic reaction to their skin. It’s not uncommon for one baby product brand to do this versus another, so it’s up to you to keep an eye out for this.

3. Keep an eye on their skin

We all want to make sure our baby’s health and wellness are optimal so they can live a rich and fulfilling life. One of the most important things you can do to ensure your baby’s skin is in good standing is to give their skin a scan from time to time. This simple home remedy for baby skincare is easy and fast.

While babies are developing, various allergies can pop up that didn’t show up before. Maybe they become allergic to some fabric, detergent, diaper, lotion, wipe, or something else. By keeping a watchful eye on your baby’s skin, you’ll have a better chance at pinpointing exactly what caused a newfound irritation in your baby’s skin.

4. Make a scrub with natural, home-made ingredients

Another fantastic eco-friendly home remedy for baby skincare is making your own skin scrub with all-natural, home-made ingredients. There are a lot of great scrubs out there, but those made from home can be high-quality as well. As long as you use eco-friendly, organic ingredients, your baby’s skin will be in good hands.

Using an eco-friendly scrub on your baby is important because it helps remove any unwanted skin remanents, like dead skin, loose hair, etc. By applying a home-made skin scrub to your baby gently and a couple of times per week, you’ll notice the improvement quickly. I suggest a mix of chickpea powder, baby oil, raw milk, and rose water to start.

5. Keep your baby hydrated

One of the most powerful ways we can keep our skin as well as our babies’ skin clear is by staying hydrated. That means drinking enough water throughout the day so you never feel the feeling of “I’m thirsty.” By drinking enough water throughout the day, your pores also stay hydrated resulting in a better look and feel.

Keeping your baby hydrated is incredibly important, but you want to make sure your baby is drinking good quality water from an eco-friendly baby bottle. This is an extremely easy home remedy for baby skincare since all it requires from you is to give your baby water here and there from a safe baby bottle throughout the day.

6. Give them light body massages

Who doesn’t like a nice body massage? Well, your baby’s skin will definitely thank you if you start giving them periodic body massages. This is a great home remedy for baby skincare because it not only helps keep your baby’s skin in tip-top shape, it’s also good for their developing body and it can calm them down.

Whenever I gave my babies a massage, I’d use safe, eco-friendly lotions that are free from any parabens or other harmful chemicals. It’s important that you know what kind of ingredients are inside the products you expose your baby’s skin to. Sometimes it can be confusing. Either way, give your baby a massage every so often and they’ll be a happy baby with beautiful skin.

7. Let them soak in the some sun

By far the most effective way of absorbing vitamin D is by getting a little exposure to the sun. While it’s ideal you soak in some rays on a daily basis, we’re not all fortunate to be in an area that allows for so much sun. Letting your baby soak in the sun for a maximum of 20 minutes per day is a great start for them.

However, you want to make sure that your baby doesn’t run around in the sunshine for too long, especially without proper protection. By giving your baby a little sun but not too much, you’ll be implementing a very easy home remedy for baby skincare while enjoying the sunny outdoors.

8. Moisturize their skin on a regular basis

Keeping your baby’s skin soft and healthy comes with a little work, but a simple home remedy for your baby’s skin is to keep them moisturized early and often. That means putting lotion on their body first thing in the day before they put on their clothes. This is very easy to do.

An important note to make when using moisturizers on your baby’s skin is to keep an eye on the ingredients used to make the moisturizer. Many times they’ll contain chemicals you don’t necessarily want to put on your baby’s skin, especially if it’s colored and packed with various fragrances. These chemicals can easily cause allergic reactions in your baby’s skin, so it’s important to keep an eye out.

9. Use a mild detergent when doing the laundry

It’s not uncommon to have the clothes that you wear on a daily basis cause a bit of irritation whenever you change up the detergent. Sadly, this has an even bigger effect on the skin of babies since they’re still in the development phase and it’s difficult to tell what will negatively affect their skin.

A simple home remedy for baby skin care is to ensure the detergent you’re using is mild enough to keep your baby’s skin free from allergic reactions. It’s also important to not use too much detergent since it can easily stick around after having been washed and even dried. Thankfully, there are plenty of great options out there for eco-friendly, mild detergent you can choose from.

10. Don’t overheat the water during bathing

We all know the feeling of stepping into a bathtub or a shower and the water is just too hot. While our skin is mature enough to withstand some level of abuse, your baby’s skin isn’t as strong as yours. Keeping the water you bathe your baby not too hot is important and an easy win when seeking out effective home remedies for baby skincare.

Whenever I’ve bathed my babies, I’ve always tried to take the temperature of the water the same as a person’s normal body temperature; 98-99 degrees Fahrenheit. By doing this, you cause less shock to your baby’s skin and even mental state. As long as you can tell the temperature of the water isn’t too far away from this range, your baby’s skin will be just fine.

11. Let them eat lots of fruit

Getting in all the necessary vitamins is important for all people, which is why I like to take multi-vitamins (whenever I remember). However, it’s vital that babies get these vitamins as they’re an important part of the development process. Babies need all their daily vitamins and nutrients to ensure they develop optimally.

Feeding your baby fruit is a fantastic home remedy for baby skincare because it brings along with it a natural glow. On top of that, your baby’s taking in the most important vitamins and nutrients they need without resorting to supplements. While I still like using supplements, eating certain fruits can do a better job in a more natural way.

12. Use natural, organic skincare products

Another great way to keep your baby’s skin safe, clean, and looking great is to use only natural, organic skincare products whenever possible. There are a huge number of products out there that use chemicals that aren’t necessarily the safest, especially if your baby has a specific allergic reaction.

Using safe, eco-friendly skincare products on your baby means avoiding any fragrances, parabens, phthalates, and other nasty chemicals. My advice is to always read the labels of the products you buy for your baby. You never know what you’re exposing your baby to.
